I've been feeling very happy in my kitchen lately. Well, unless I am washing dishes, then I feel grumpy. But besides that, here are some kitchen-related stuff I love.
1) My immersion blender. Dave gave it to me fro Christmas and I knew I would love it for making pureed soups, but I had no idea how much happiness it would bring me. Not only have I made some delicious soups, I have also used it for making mint oreo milkshakes, blending the eggs for french toast, and, my personal favorite, frothy chocolate milk. (Whole milk is the key. So yummy!)
2.) Coarse "Kosher" salt. I used it for the first time while roasting some butternut squash and it added such delicious savory-ness that I keep using it for other stuff too. I don't know how, but it tastes different than table salt to me.
3.) THIS butternut squash soup recipe. Holy Moly. It is good. Seriously. The best I have ever had. I couldn't stop eating it. I want some more.
4.) Cookies.
What is your favorite kitchen item or recipe?

Really I'd have to choose just one?!
I am also in love with kosher salt. It is decidedly stronger and more savory than table salt. I use the finer table salt in my baking and kosher salt in my cooking. This morning, with my hard boiled eggs, however, I did opt for table salt. It's too easy to be overly salty with hard boiled eggs.
My favorite kitchen gadget is a pair of tongs. I have about three small pairs of tongs, with spring-loaded hinges, and I LOVE them! I use them every day. To pull out the hot oven rack, to retrieve a short piece of toast from the recalcitrant toaster, to place on a stack of french toast or meat for serving, to pull baked potatoes out of the oven, to fish stray items from the deep fryer...you get the idea. I love my tongs!!
I am also in love with my stick blender. I use it about 10 times more than I thought I would. Awesome for home made salad dressings and a million other things that I can't quite think of right now, but I use it a ton.
Now I will start cooking with kosher salt.
I am also in love with fresh ground pepper. Only way to go.
And cinnamon toast. Truly underrated breakfast food.
Bech got an immersion blender for Christmas, and we both love it! Pureed soups are so much easier now.
I will have to try that soup recipe. I love butternut squash!
Haha, I had to look up an immersion blender.. never heard of such a thing....then i saw the pictures, and remembered i got one years ago for Christmas. I think I'll try it out...;)
