In my unofficial journey of self-discovery (because I don't really have myself figured out as much as I'd like to think) I've uncovered a little fact about myself:
I am a nerd.
And not the I'm-so-nerdy-its-cool type of nerd. Just the dorky kind.
I discovered this several years ago when, for about 20 minutes, I sat analyzing the birthday patterns of my parents' children and grandchildren. (Which month is most common, which number is most common, summer or winter birthday patterns, etc.) Every so often I would tell Dave an interesting fact/pattern I noticed. After a while he started laughing and I realized that not everyone does that.
Since then I've noticed several "nerd-alert" things about me:
*I have no sense of style, design or fashion. And not even like I have a style and its kinda different. I have no idea what looks good and what doesn't. (I know that mis-matched is kinda cool, but does Ana's pink striped shirt, black plaid skirt and brown leggings look like mis-matched cute or like I don't take care of my children? I have no idea.) My home decorating tastes fluctuate depending on my mood and I have no idea how to fix my own hair and makeup.
*I prefer to do math in my head when I run. Math? What? Yes, that's right. I do story problems specifically.
*On our romantic getaway a few months ago, while soaking in our romantic bath for two, Dave and I had a 20 minute discussion on water density and displacement. (I brought it up.) So romantic.
*I also ask Dave questions like, "You add ice to water and the water melts the ice, but could there ever be a situation in which the ice would freeze the water?" I concocted a pretty elaborate hypothetical situation in my brain that answered this question, but I was most excited the other day when I discovered a real-life example: icicles!
*I requested that Dave give me a "lecture" on the immune system the other day. I even took notes.
*I love logic puzzles and Sudoku.
*I may or may not have gone on and on about how many pairs of socks I matched yesterday (50 pairs!) for long enough that Dave said, "enough about the socks!"
You see? I am a nerd. Maybe you all knew this already, but I'm just coming to terms with my own un-cool-ness. Its okay, though. Dave likes me.

ignore your teeth and they'll go away
** Two posts today. Check them both out. **
I went to the Dentist today. I won't admit how long its been since I've been since the last time I went. Its a little embarrassing. The hygienist said my teeth looked pretty good. My wisdom teeth are popping out, but as long as their not bothering me, its nothing to worry about. I have 2 cavities to get filled on Thursday.
I know a lot of people who like going to the dentist. Or at least don't mind much. I am not one of them.
I hate going to the dentist. Everything about it is unpleasant to me. That thing you have to put in your mouth for the x-ray makes me want to gag. The scraping sound echoing in my head is like nails on a chalkboard. That nasty polishing stuff that feels all fuzzy in my mouth. And what is with that suction thing. I hate it. And that is all before you get a filling.
My mom said to me, "I think its ranked right up there with a trip to the gyno."
I think I'd rather get a pap smear.

Confession #3 - Am I the only one?
Or do other moms have a problem with over-emotionality. For example, I was driving through the Wal-Mart parking lot, perusing for a spot, listening to country radio. A song comes on about a boy who is asking his girlfriend's dad for her hand... The guy sees all these pictures of her as a little girl - dressed up as Cinderella, playing in the sprinkler, riding a bike for the first time, etc. And he realizes that in her dad's eyes, he's just stealing Cinderella. So there I am in the parking lot, listening to this cheesy song, bawling my eyes out. It was pathetic really. Things like this happen frequently, particularly when involving family tenderness. Hallmark commercials, and even my friend's wedding do it to me too. (Dave is always quick to point out that I didn't cry at our wedding, but I cry at everything else.) So, I ask again, am I the only one?

Confession #2
is probably one of my favorite movies right now. And #2 (premiered last Friday) is just as good. The first time I saw #1, I thought, "what is this movie?" But when I realized it was a made for TV Disney original, I loved it! I've always loved the Disney Channel. Remember The Lizzy McGuire Movie? I saw it 3 times - in the theaters - and bought the soundtrack and I was 19. But don't let that deter you from HSM. Both are quite excellent! I think one reason I love them so much is because I loved high school and I performed in the show choir and in West Side Story and Annie. So watching these movies, I could almost see me acting in it. I would have loved it! Anyway, are plot for both 1 and 2 are fun and very feel-good. And the show is completely clean. There aren't even any girls in bikinis. I highly recommend them!
P.S. That picture of Ana a couple posts ago was taken on Memorial Day. She and Dave fell asleep on my Grandpa's hammock. Then I just edited it using Picassa to add the blurry affect and make it black and white. Its one of my favs of her sleeping.

Confession #1
I love cheesy church novels. Since finishing Harry Potter, I needed something light to read and so I've read three of these books in the last week. You know the type, they all basically follow the same plot line... Girl and boy meet, usually there is some animosity between them at first, or else its love at first sight and they can't admit it to themselves. Then there is some problem - a mystery, a secret, or one of them isn't a member of the church or something like that they need to overcome. Then the end when they confess their undying love in completely cheesy terms and live Happily Ever After. I love them! Of course, some are better than others. My favorite are the mystery type. Betsy Brannon Green's books are usually really good. Two of my favorite's by her are Hearts in Hiding and Until Proven Guilty. Another one that is really good is Closing In. The 3 I read this week were pretty good. Two of them were by Rachel Ann Nunes and she can be a little overly-churchy at times. And I think Anita Stansfield gets a little too tragic in her books. The other one I read was by Sierra St James called What the Doctor Ordered and it was my favorite of the three. I like them because they are really quick reads, they are wholesome, and they are just light feel-good books.
