paradigm shift in parts

When my babies hit 6 months, things get complicated. The baby isn't sleeping as much during the day, mobility increases and so does the need to interact. And then I can't seem to get anything done. It doesn't help that it hits in the midst of my winter blues. I've been feeling overwhelmed the last little while.

*As women we have a tendency to compare our weaknesses with other women's strengths. Some women have immaculate homes. Some are very creative. Some are good at seeing others' needs and serving them. The fact is, everyone has something very important to them. For everything that one woman does, there is something she does not do.

I do things that others do not.

*A few weeks ago I asked my good friend and mother of 3 how she keeps it all together. She told me as much as she loves cooking, she only makes dinner a couple times a week. The other nights her family eats sandwiches, breakfast food, leftovers and other (healthy) quick fixes. The next day I asked my sister, "How often do you make a good dinner for your family?" "Probably 3 times a week," she answered.

I do not have to make dinner every night.

*I get down on myself sometimes. I get in a pattern of negative thinking - focusing on all the things I am not good at or things I don't do that I wish I did or things that I do that I wish I didn't. I decided to fight it while I mopped my kitchen floor.

I am good at things. I sing. I write. I am interested in a lot of different things. I really try to be a good, deliberate mother. I have talents.

*I have wonderful friends.

I am feeling better.

I used to make dinner 5 night a week. Like real dinners. I now cook real dinners 3 times a week and do 3 light /easy night. I've been much more relaxed and it seems I've enjoyed my time more. I think you are FAB! I love reading your blog!!

You know what is funny?? You are one of those women for me! I look at you and think you are amazing!
You keep a consistent blog, which I know is important to you.
You are one of the best mothers ever! You sing SO beautifully.
You can play the piano.
You have well-rounded, kind, beautiful children.
You make dinner every night!!!
You are so intelligent! I am SO envious that comes so naturally to you and you love school and to learn. That is probably one of, if not the biggest insecurity I have. I look up to you so much in that regard!
You have a testimony that is so strong it is practically another piece of your wardrobe!
You make friends so easily and have no qualms just walking up to stangers and becoming their friend.
You are a master seamstress! At least I think you are.
I think the 2 things I admire the MOST about you though is that 1. You have your priorities in the right order. You know what is most important in life and you do it! And 2. You are SO kind and un-judgemental! I have never heard you say an ill word about anybody. That is a serious gift!

You are just the most amazing friend a girl could ask for!!
