I do not do well sleep-deprived. Ask anyone. My mom says I get "irrational." She tried to warn Dave, but he didn't believe her until one night after we were married I came unglued under sleep deprivation. He thought it was comical at the time. That made it worse. Anyway, I would say 90% of the time, if I'm mad, its because I'm tired. No kidding. Also when I am sleep-deprived, all I can think about is "when can I nap/sleep." I go through the day praying that I'll catch a few zzz's here and there. I usually need at least 8 hours of sleep to ward off any "episodes." With that in mind, let me share with you my last week in sleep.
Last Thurs night: The baby took a long evening nap and didn't fall asleep until after 2. I didn't feel well either so it was after 3 before I fell asleep. I got up at 8.
Fri: Spent the night in the emergency room. Finally got to sleep at 3. Woke up at 6 for pre-surgery info. Got in another hour before I went home to feed the baby.
Sat: Dave was home, but sleeping on the couch. Ana woke up in the middle of the night, (about 3:00) and didn't fall back asleep until after 5. The baby woke up at 8.
Sun: I actually did get decent sleep that night.
Mon: Dave attempts to sleep in the bedroom. Half way through the night, he said he needed an extra pillow. I was too tired to get up, so I gave him mine and slept fitfully until Jack woke up at 5:30. He went right back to sleep, but Ana woke up at 6:30. She didn't go back to sleep.
Tues: Ana had taken a 2 hour nap at 5:00 and was up until 11. We finally got to bed after 12, the baby woke up sometime in the middle of the night and then Ana woke up at 8 with a fever.
Last night: Jack didn't go to sleep until after 1. By this time, I was in tears over my lack of sleep. Then Ana woke up at 6. I spent an hour rocking her back to sleep, just to find that the baby was awake. I spent an hour rocking him, put him in the swing and we both fell asleep in the living room.
That extra couple hours on the chair has done wonders, but I am still dead tired. Its like Ana knows that I have to be the one to take care of her. (Dave can't lift more than 15 lbs for a month.) But she still is really cute. She wanted Jack to play with her on the floor the other day, and I got some cute snap shots of it. Hopefully this next week will be better than the last.

Lack of sleep SUCKS!!!!!!! I am the same way. If I am grumpy I am either hungry or tired. And it only makes it worse when my husband asks me if I am hungry/tired, because that is his nice way of saying I am being grumpy. So I can TOTALLY relate. Good luck trying to get more sleep!
I can feel for you. It is so hard when 2 need you, and always at different times. I'm not sure it ever goes away completely, but I know you'll get more sleep in time!!! Good luck.
I sure wish I could come take your kids to let you get a good nap in. (How's that for strange...a stranger saying she'd take your kids!) I'm much like you and don't do well without good sleep. I hope this next week is better for you. At least after 2 weeks, Dave will be able to lift Ana again.
So sorry! I hate days and weeks like that! I am much like you with the whole sleep thing. Hopefully it will soon get better. If you do need a nap give me a call and I'll come sit with the kidos for a few hours for ya!
You poor girl! I hope the sleep fairy comes and falls upon all of you!
Yup, been there. I remember once when we had a lot of little kids Alan told someone that he didn't think I had slept through the night for 5 years and he wondered why I wasn't dead! Anyway, jsut saying that i can relate! You can always call and have us babysit while you take a nap.
Oh Erin, I am so sorry! I hope that this next week is much better for you !
Sounds like a ton of work. I hope you can get more sleep soon. I can think of few things that are worse on my emotional state of being than a lack of sleep.
I am so sorry. I know how it is. Two nights ago, I was up for two and a half hours straight in the night. I tend to loose it with the kids when I get tired. I am still waiting for your emotional break-down story. Let me know when it happens. I love you.
It's fun to see Ana's favorite blankie in so many pictures! And it's much less fun to be able to say I know how you feel about being tired. When I get too tired, I get INCREDIBLY irritable and prone to panic attacks while sleeping. Not good. I feel for ya!!! But lots of times a situation such as this will suddenly bottom out and then get better sooner than expected. I hope you're reading this comment on the upswing!!
