Nap time - or not

This is what we're struggling with these days. She really fights taking a nap. Its pretty much pointless to even force an afternoon nap. The problem is, she still kinda needs one. If she doesn't have one, by 5:00 she's grumpy as all get out until I put her to bed at 7:30. But, I work for my brother in law 4 days a week and it involves me driving around town for 30-45 minutes every day. She almost always falls asleep in the car on these little trips. Sometimes she is really out, too. We bring her in onto the couch and she'll sleep until 5 - and then be up until 9:30 or 10:00.

Pros of napping: quiet time in the afternoon. With the baby coming, I know I'll need a nap throughout the day.
Pros of not napping: She goes to bed really early (7:30) and still sleeps until 8:30 or 9. That's a lot of time in the evening to just relax.
So its a struggle. What bothers me most is that there isn't really a schedule for the day. But I guess thats what will have to happen until I'm not working anymore.

So, that's the gallbladder?

This picture isn't great but it's pretty good. Something like this is what I was watching on Tuesday morning. We went to Rupert and I got to observe a surgery - gallbladder removal. I don't know what I was expecting from the laparoscopic surgery but it was pretty cool. The image on the tv the doctor used when operating was great quality. There was another guy there observing the nurse anesthetist that passed out when the surgery started. I was glad I was the one getting blankets to put under his head instead of passing out. It was quite a bit cooler and much less gross than I had thought it might be. I don't think general surgery will be what I want to do but it was a great experience. I even saw a few people I knew from my home ward and high school while I was there.

More info on job situation to come...

I have a ton of homework right now.

Do you live in Idaho?

For all us Idaho residents (and former Idaho residents)

FORGET REDNECKS, THIS IS WHAT JEFF FOXWORTHY HAD TO SAY ABOUT IDAHOANS:

If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don't work there, you live in Idaho.

If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you live in Idaho. (I've been really tempted to a few days this winter. And I wear my chacos in the snow.)

If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed the wrong number, you live in Idaho. (I'm pretty sure my mom has.)

If 'vacation' means going anywhere south of Salt Lake City for the weekend, you live in Idaho. (Dang, SLC would be a vacation. Going to Rupert is a vacation.)

If you measure distance in hours, you live in Idaho. (yep)

If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you live in Idaho.

If you have switched from 'heat' to 'A/C' and back again in the same day, you live in Idaho. (Done that. A lot)

If you install security lights on your house and garage but leave both unlocked, you live in Idaho.

If you can drive 75 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard without flinching, you live in Idaho. (Only a slight exaggeration.)

If you design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit, you live in Idaho. (yep)

If the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph -- you're going 80, and everyone is still passing you, you live in Idaho.

If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow, you live in Idaho. (Now that the snow is melting, the potholes are awful!)

If you know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter, and road construction, you live in Idaho. (This is very true)

If you find 10 degrees 'a little chilly' you live in Idaho. (True again. At 30 degrees, I leave my coat at home.)

(I definitely live in Idaho.)

Pillow Talk

My sister has asked that I make her some throw pillows for her living room. I'm really excited for this new sewing project, but I need some advice/direction.

What kind of fabric is best for home decor? What's a good price per yard? How big is a standard throw? Is piping essential?

So, any help from my blogging buddies out there would be great. Or just point me in the direction of some great websites or patterns. Dark green is her basic color, and I kinda want to mix and match, with different sizes/shapes and maybe piece the front of some. What do ya'll think?

"Laura"

Our friend Laura always wants to hear Ana saying her name but when Ana gets near her she won't say it. That's why we took this video from our regular still-picture camera. It was a night when Ana really wanted to go see Laura.

Ana is cute.

on our minds

As graduation for Dave approaches, a lot of things are on our minds. Mostly its all the unknown stuff, up-in-the air stuff. So, what's our plan?

*Dave wants to go to Medical School. Back in August he was planning on being an eye-doctor and did phenomonal on the admissions test. He probably could have entered any school he wanted. But Med school requires a different test and a different school and slightly different requirements. So, though he's graduating in April, he'll be applying this summer to enter in Fall 2009.

*It looks like he has a job opportunity in Rupert right after graduation, even though he'll only be around for 15 months. We really want to live in Rupert to be closer to family for a little while before going to med school. The job doesn't pay quite as well as we had hoped.

*We want to be able to buy a bigger (trail blazer) car by the end of the in between year. We're not sure if we can do that with this job.

*Med school is another issue entirely. They are expensive and hard to get in to, especially for white males. He'll have to take the MCAT pretty soon, too. We're in the process of deciding what schools to apply to, and we could end up anywhere, really. Our top choices are U of Washington and Utah, but there is one in Texas and a few others that might be good for us too.

So, I guess that's it. A lot on our minds. I've had a pretty cushy life so far, so probably we're about to take on a few more challanges in the next few years.

Things I can't have now

Here is a list of expensive things I want but can't have for a long time. They are in no particular order:

-A nice SLR digital camera
-A good road bike
-A new computer (maybe an iMac)
-Trailblazer (probably around 2001 year)
-I really want a drum set. - One thing that makes this really expensive is that we will probably have to be living in a HOUSE before this is possible.

That's all I can think of for now.

Gaggies

Dave made the best no bake-cookies the other day. We call them "Gaggies." They were perfectly smooth and oh so yummy! He's getting "gaggie cookie" duty from now on. When I make them the cocoa and peanut butter is always a little grainy. Of course, I have official "chocolate chip cookie" duty. We'll follow the exact same recipe and mine will turn out beautiful and his are flat and crispy. I never feel as guilty eating gaggies since they have oatmeal and peanut butter. I mean, they are practically good for you, right?

Erin the hippie

When I got back from volunteering at the hospital today I was greeted by a smiling hippie. For sharing time last week Erin had one of the kids dressed up like Nephi or someone like that with a little piece of material tied around their head. She was cleaning stuff up today while I was gone, found it, put it on her head and forgot about it. She was standing right by the front door when I came in and was smiling really big because I had almost hit her with the door. I thought she was smiling because she looked like a hippie and she knew it.

Anyway, Ana really wanted us to get out the guitar for a while and when Erin was playing I couldn't resist the picture opportunity.

It's not just me right? She does look like a hippie.
